I made Captain and picked up my Exploration Cruiser. Basically the Enterprise-D model with some modifications of course. Last time we talked about flight speeds during combat. Flying the Exploration Cruiser is way different. I found that 25% thrust works best for me. Anything above that and my turning arc was too wide. It is insane how much damage I can do.

Episode called Trapped I was scanning some debris fields when a signularity opened up pulling me into a Pocket Universe a Hirogen Trap. It was sooooo cooollll.

When you play the game what does everyone listen to music wise?

Hey guys

I was going to say "I am new to Star Trek Online" but then I realized -
EVERYONE is new to STO. I was wondering if you could suggest a good online
guide for the game? I started playing Saturday night and found parts of it
very confusing. As I have listened to your podcast I noticed you all seem
to be catching on pretty fast. I have played WOW since the final beta, so I
am not new to MMO mechanics. I'm just not finding STO as easy to learn as
WOW was. Ship flight especially. An example of this would be a rescue
mission I have been attempting. There are a ton of enemy ships and I am
destroyed every time I try to complete the mission. Are some of these
missions meant for groups and not solo?

This leads me to ask - Did you folks use an online guide or did you figure
everything out for yourselves by playing the game? If you are using a
guide, which one would you consider to be the most useful?

I think I may apply to your fleet - perhaps the best way to learn is by
playing with others.

Thanks for any help you can offer

I have a vulcan engineer named Snick and my ship is Timbucktoo.

On WOW my main is Snic and I play on Turalyon (80 gnome warlock).

Thanks for the great show!

Howdy all. I've been a ctrl alt follower for sometime. I first started playing mmo's back when City of Heroes came out. I played that for quite awhile and made a lot of friends. WoW came out and I was instantly hooked.

Recently I found out a few of my old friends are playing STO and I would love one of the 10 day trial keys to give it a try and catch up with my buddies.

Keep up the good work and I think a show that breaks down the factions and playable races would be a good idea.

The reason you are able to re-enter a system after exploring it is a timing issue. As far as I can tell there are set positions in the uncharted territories where anomolies spawn. If you are able to complete an explore after the zone respawns but before someone else grabs it you will exit your mission ontop of the refreshed anomoly.

The reason parallels does not work, as well as pretty much every other
VM, does not have direct access to the video card. So all the 3D
acceleraton that the game relys on is unavailable. Booting into
windows with bootcamp or other multiboot tool will work because
windows becomes the host OS with full access to the hardware.

Email D from Kyle

Someone may have told you about this, but I thought I would drop you a note just in case.

In your last episode you commented that you haven't been able to play STO in Parallels. I can't get it you run in Parallels or VMware either, but it works great with the unsupported Crossover Games 8.2.0. It's great not having to boot into windows to play STO or WoW :)

Here's a link to more info about it: http://www.codeweavers.com/about/people/blogs/jwhite/2010/2/2/the-needs-of-the-one-

Tips
I have been asked by a few people what the 0 +1, -1 or whatever number means. It is the number that relates to your rank. A -8 means 8 ranks below you while a +2 means 2 ranks above. A 0 means even rank.

Hold down the Ctrl key when you buy an item and it buys it immediately with no prompting. Hopefully there will be a multi-buy option soon.

Stair from our fleet let us know that you can control your energy settings for Weapons, Shields, Engines and Aux via key commands. Very handy as it is easier than trying to adjust during a fight. I will have the how-to in our show notes.

Ok, the command for setting power lvls to keys is as follows

/bind genbuttonclick powerlevel_preset_0
/bind genbuttonclick powerlevel_preset_1
/bind genbuttonclick powerlevel_preset_2
/bind genbuttonclick powerlevel_preset_3

0=attack/weapons
1=defense/shield
2=speed/engines
3=aux/subsystems

enter the commands in the chat box, any channel
commands are toon specific, need to enter for each toon

The Engines Cannae’ Take It! a blog by BigBadB was recommend by one of our Fleeters ThinBluLine. There is an excellent article on Starship Weapons overviews. Check out the show notes for a link. http://theenginescannaetakeit.wordpress.com/articles-3/starship-weapons-overview/

Another tip from ThinBluLine - On the latest episode there was talk about Memory Alpha and banks at that location. You don't need the mats in your inventory, you can leave them in the banks and still craft. It recognizes you have them in the bank and uses them.

There are other links to guides on our forums. All listeners of Ctrl Alt Trek are invited to hang out in our forums. You do not have to be a member of our fleet. One thing to note we will not tolerate immature behavior or jabs at other forums members.

Seen quite a few people asking how to turn of a UI for a screenshot. There is no need when you use the printscreen button the UI is automatically hidden. There are more screenshot options. If you type /screen you should see a few. One for UI, jpg and more.

Emotes are done with /e.

Ctrl Alt Trek Fleet is growing. You can apply by going to our website at ctrlalttrek.com and click on the How to Join Us button.

Cryptic executive producer Craig Zinkievich has announced that they are starting work on our ship interiors and soon we will be able to explore our ships. However he stated it is one of those things they want to get perfect before introducing it to the players so how soon it will be out is anyone's guess.

The attempt at a world record in London was successful. Most people in Star Trek Costumes gathered at London’s Millenium Bridge on Valentine’s Day then ever before.

They pulled the exploit where you could change instances inside the Random Encounters to get a faster time or to jump in on a close to done encounter.

Caught a post on the forums from Cryptic in response to user generated content. Cryptic has been very intrigued by the idea of User Generated Content and there is a vision that what you are describing in this thread isn't too far off in the future. We are watching what other companies are doing with User Generated Missions very closely. http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=121714

dstahl on the forums says "We're absolutely reading these threads. We want to take the game in the direction that will bring less combat into the game. We are already discussing how to add more non-combat mission varieties as well as ways to bring the Federation game inline with Prime Directives. It is not going to happen overnight, and you are going to see Raid and high end combat game play happen first (as those elements were already in development as we were shipping) but more non-combative gameplay IS coming."

There is a bug that you can glitch all weapons into auto-fire by rapidly right-clicking the weapon icons. Set your front ones side by side and turn them both off. Then quick right click on each. It will take some time but it will eventually stick on. Same with rear weapons. Some are wondering if you could get banned by this. Zinc on the forums said "We're actively looking into opening up the auto-fire feature like you guys have been asking for. It'll probably be a little but before we release a solution though. We're currently not planning on fixing the multi auto-fire "bug" until we have a real solution. Don't worry, no banning."

How the consoles on a ship work and why people cannot get the abilities they think they should have. Consoles have a rank as well so on an ensign console you will only have access to the first level of a crewman's ability. Put them on a Lt. one and you have 2 levels and so on.

Autofire with phasers controversy.

Been doing alot of the exploration missions to increase my armor/guns and ship components.

Cool Episode called Hunting the Hunters. I was tricked by a group of Hirogen and forced to fight in arena type forcefield matches. I had to disable the forceshields to get out to rescue the shuttle crew.

I was thinking that the missions kept feeling the same but all I was doing was exploration quests to get more equipment for my ship and me. I did some regular missions and they were awesome. Rescued a ship that was stuck at a huge barrier the Rolumans erected. They took out the other ship and captured most of the crew. I beamed down to the planet and rescued everyone. The Planet was incredible looking. It literally took my breath away.

Hey guys I like the show and I wanna give the game a shot.I plan on buying the game this weekend so I don't think the free trial will help me but thanks anyway . I been wanting to captain a starship for a while and am excited to know that now i can. I have been a fan of Star Trek for a long time.I been playing WoW for almost 2 years and always hoped a decent SciFi MMO would come along. I will try to play both. Also I was wondering if there were different servers and if so wich one are you guys on? I kinda like the way you reference Warcraft because its something I understand .Thanks for the tips , sure beats starting the game clueless

Keep on Trekkin

Hi guys,

I just listened to Episode 3 and thought I would email a couple of questions.
1. Key bindings. Do you have a favorite key binding suggestion that has made it easier to play the game? Particularly in space combat.
BOUVI - I just use what is on my bars. I expanded them all the way to 3. In A1 - A0 my ship functions are Jam Targeting Sensors, Torpedo Spread, Evasive Maneuvers, Emergency Power to Shields, Emergency Power to Weapons, Rotate Shield Freq, EPS Power Transfer, Directed Energy Modulation, Boarding Party and Tractor Beam. On C1 and C2 I have Dispersal Pattern Alpha and Ramming speed. On C8 I have Brace for Impact and on C0 I have my Transwarp Drive. My main bar just has weapons and my quick buff like energy battery and Shield Battery.

2. Explanation of weapon effectiveness. Phasers vs Disruptors? What do all the acronyms mean?
BOUVI - I am going to talk ships on this one. One thing when looking for weapons is firing arc. Beam Weapons have the largest arcs while Torpedoes have the smallest. You must have the Torpedo launcher pointed right at them for it to work. Beam type weapons work against the shield. There are quite a few types. Phasers have a chance to disable a random system, while disruptors have a chance of increasing the damage enemies will take. There are a few variations on this as well. You have your beam, dual beam and turret. Turrets are unique in they have a 360 degree firing arc. Torpedoes and mines work best against the hulls. Cannons are like a middle ground and do decent damage to both shield and hulls. However the further away you are the less damage done by them and have a very narrow 90 degree firing arc. As far as what the acronyms mean I have tried to find information on those and could not find a thing. If anyone out there knows please shoot us an e-mail. :)

3. Favorite Consoles. Do you have a favorite console? Why?
BOUVI - Anything to increase my quantum yield. Because I think Quantum Torpedoes are cool.

Thanks for all of the hints and suggestions! Keep up the good work :) Looking forward to joining your fleet!

Hello all,
I have enjoyed the first three episodes so far and I just started playing the game and wow it is great so far!
I know I have so much still to learn but enjoying everything about it.
I like how everything in my opinion is different.
I will keep it short this week and hope to send another email next week with more content and questions.

Actually I do like to mention something, I am new to Cryptic and yes I am a moob (or noob to others) and did not know about the cryptic points. To let other moobs out there know on your cryptic online account right underneath your payment methods you can get the points. ;/
Yes it did take me some time to figure that out.

Ok take care all and have fun!

Cryptic plans on patching every Thursday. Very ambitious announcement

Huge Bug in Fleet Banks. No matter what permissions you set anyone can pull energy from the bank. If you have a new recruit they can pull all the energy and leave the fleet. Some fleets have already lot a ton of energy.

Feb 11th patch. Bring on the Borg - http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?p=2038123
New missions include:
- 3 new Borg related episodes
- Repeatable Star Cluster mission against Borg threats
- Deep Space encounters with Patrolling Borg fleets
- A Daily Star Cluster mission which grants Marks of Exploration for use at an exclusive store in the Staging Fleet to gear up for upcoming Raidisode Content

Feb 12th Patch was mostly a bunch of bug fixes. What is nice is they had unexpected downtime so they applied the patch during that time and when I work up expecting the servers down they were up.

Off ship, toons have mass. Naming concept nice. Toon@Forumnames, gives a way of associating. (If your forum name is same as your log in name you should contact support as having your account name visible could lead to hacking..)

Big shoutout to Kelsey, Myia and Blake Beeler. They are three of my martial arts students who bought me the Star Trek shirt I am wearing tonight for Christmas. They already know their instructor is a geek. Aprillian said pic or it didn't happen.

End of Beta was incredible. I only had an hour but in that time I defended the earth, got toasted by a ton of Borg ships that caught me in sector space and just had a great time ushering out the beta. Wife played during this time and I ended up buying her a lifetime membership too.

The merits I was talking about in the last episode are not only what you use to purchase new crew members but those same merits are used for leveling. Thanks to Snapperhead for that info.

Forums went down at 7am PST and the excitement builds until launch. Was able to leave work early due to a winter storm and get into headstart.

Got logged in and my Borg is not ready yet :( They are working on fixing it. But I loaded my old 9 foot tall alien (I had saved his looks from beta). Load screens are much faster so far. Instancing works great I am not overcrowded atm.

Got my Borg toon. We are Bouvacutus. Waiting on wife's account to be fixed before leveling them. Only Borg option you get is human or Klingon. Would have liked to been more unique. Maybe later they will patch it. They have an option for Twitchy when he is standing still. Kind of like Data sometimes. I like it. I missed my 9 ft tall aliens so a couple of them are my crewmembers.

Wife was able to get her Borg character and we started leveling together

Gufoni let me know where to spend all the minerals, etc. Memory Alpha.

You can go back with team members and do quests already completed.

Tribbles in your bag with food multiply. I have all my Bridge Officers equipped with them. Nice quick non-combat heal.

Huge Que on Sunday. Alot of people are not happy. I know a couple of our members spent over an hour trying to get in.

Wolf 359 is incredible solemn space. Like a gigantic graveyard.

Open up your status window Right click on Body and Kit to hide them so you can see your uniform.

I am happy to report that last night I made it to Lt. Commander, again, and now have my cruiser, again. So you could say I am right back where I was last week.
